NPO to hold fun walk to raise funds

There will be guest speakers to help raise awareness about child protection.

RATA Social Services is holding a walk for awareness on May 28 at Laerskool Môrewag to commemorate Child Protection Week, which spans from the last week of May to the first week of June.

There will be speakers from stakeholders, including Advocate Dick Hattingh, the senior public prosecutor for Brakpan, as well as prizes to be won.

Supporters of the event will be donning children’s flip-flops to literally ‘walk in a child’s shoes’, and proceeds will go towards operations at RATA.

Registration starts at 10:00 and is R30, and the children’s flip-flops that supporters will be walking in are R20 each.

The walk starts at 12:00 and will continue until 14:00.

Any cash donations towards making the event an accessible and memorable one are appreciated, and supporters and prospective donors can contact the office on brakpan@rata.org.za, or Feerowza Mulligan or Bongekile Sibeko on 011 740 9310.

RATA is an NPO subsidised by the Department of Social Development, but as an NPO they have many challenges and worries. As such they are constantly raising funds to be able to continue operations.

They have a soup kitchen for the homeless, which is open Monday to Thursday and have recently opened a charity shop at their offices at 38 Park Street.
