Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from July 28 to 30.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A TV and liquor were stolen during a break-in at a home along Hayes Street in Brakpan North.

• A Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from the corner of Devon and Acton streets in Dalview.

• A burglary took place at an address along De Kock Street in Vulcania. Gas bottles, a gas stove, pots and other items were stolen.

• Two house robberies took place.

Three men gained access to a home along Gert Bezuidenhout Avenue in Minnebron at around 11:00 and threatened a domestic worker with a pick axe.

The domestic worker was forced into a bedroom and instructed to lie on the floor.

The robbers ransacked the house, taking TVs, jewellery, shoes, a gaming console, clothing, fishing gear and other valuables.

The second robbery took place at an address in Kaapmuiden Avenue, Leachville, at about 15:40.

The victim was washing his car in the yard when he was approached by a man who said he was there to see a woman who lives in a room on the property.

The man then walked to the back of the house but returned a short while later and grabbed the victim.

He demanded money and pointed a gun at him.

The gunman was joined by at least five other accomplices, all brandishing firearms, and the victim was robbed of his cellphone.

The robbers transferred money from the victim’s bank account using the app on his phone.

They then went inside the victim’s room where they took tools and a gas stove.

Before the robbers fled the scene, they tied the victim’s hands and feet, and then locked him in his room.

Saturday – A light brown Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from the corner of Voortrekker Road and Wanderers Street.

• A welding machine and other tools were stolen during a burglary at a workshop along Gardiner Avenue.

• A fast food eatery along 12th Road in Maryvlei was broken into.

The culprits tampered with the alarm system and then opened two safes, from where they stole almost R50 000.

• A white Big Boy scooter was stolen from Mall@Carnival. The scooter’s rider was at the mall to collect food for delivery.

• Cigarettes and cash were stolen during a robbery at a Dalpark petrol station.

Two men entered the shop on the premises at around 13:50 and approached the cashier at the counter.

One opened the till while the other took cigarettes.

It is unclear whether the men were armed with weapons.

• A spare wheel was stolen from a vehicle parked at Mall@Carnival.

• A case of murder was opened after a man died at a Voortrekker Road petrol station.

Police were notified of the incident at 22:18.

The man, who was bleeding heavily, arrived at the petrol station on foot and collapsed.

He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

It is reported he suffered a stab wound to the neck.

The man was between 25 and 30 years old.

Sunday – Farming equipment was stolen during a robbery at a business along Lukas Steyn Street in Withok Estates.

Two men, one of whom was armed with a gun, confronted three guards on the premises at about 20:30.

The stolen goods are valued at almost R30 000.
