Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to local SAPS from March 10 to 12.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past weekend:

Friday – A home in Chevalier Street, Sherwood Gardens, was burgled of a TV and an amplifier.
• Tools, camping chairs and items of clothing were stolen during a burglary at a residence in Edward Street, Anzac.

• A white Toyota Tazz was stolen from an address along Wordsworth Street in Dalpark.

• The driver of a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was shot in the upper leg during an attempted hijacking at his Withok Estates home.

Police were summoned to the scene along Mouton Road at around 22:30. The victim was attacked by two hijackers as he was parking his vehicle.

One of them shot the victim, who returned fire and fatally wounded one of them. His accomplice fled the scene.

Paramedics declared the would-be hijacker dead on the scene and the injured victim was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Saturday – A woman was robbed by four men travelling in a taxi. The victim boarded the taxi along Craven Street in Sherwood Gardens at about 17:45.

Shortly after driving off, one of the men grabbed her and started strangling her. The victim was pulled under the seats and threatened with a firearm.

The men forced the woman to transfer money from her account on her banking apps. She was robbed of her cellphones and then dropped off.

• A man was stabbed in the hand and robbed of his cellphone by a gang of six men. The group targeted the victim as he was walking alone along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville at around 19:45.

• A laptop, a cellphone and a camera were stolen during a house robbery at a home along Naboom Crescent in Dalpark.

Three men, one of whom was armed with a gun, gained access to the house at around 23:15 and threatened a man and his wife at gunpoint.

The couple was instructed not to look at the intruders. After ransacking the house, the trio fled.

Sunday – A spare wheel was stolen from a bakkie parked at Mall@Carnival.
• A car parked at an address along Voortrekker Road was broken into and a cellphone and a wallet were stolen.

• A robbery was reported at a transport company along 5th Road in Witpoort Estates.

A security guard and another employee were ambushed by two gunmen at around 23:45. The guard was robbed of his cellphone and panic button.

The pair was then tied up and locked inside a caravan on the premises. A truck and two trailers with cargo were stolen. The truck horse was later found in a field near Tsakani.
