Police meet with informal settlement residents

Following the meeting, residents intend to establish a CPF in the area.

Brakpan SAPS station commander Brigadier Fredl Jonck paid a visit to the Mkhancwa informal settlement in Maryvlei last Wednesday evening to engage with the community.

This follows requests from the settlement’s residents for police to intervene in certain matters

Residents raised various crime concerns with Jonck, who was accompanied by Sergeant Faith Ntuli from the Social Crime Prevention Unit, and Crime Prevention Unit members.

The station commander told residents that illegal liquor outlets in the settlement attributed to illegal activities.

He also appealed for people to come forward and work hand-in-hand with the police as informants.

“Those assembled demonstrated gratitude towards the SAPS members and consented to constitute a CPF in the area,” said Brakpan SAPS communications officer Constable Audrey Buthelezi.
