New faces at Brakpan SAPS

Police station has two new members.

Brakpan police recently welcomed two new appointees into the fold.

Colonel Eugene Scheepers, a Brakpan resident with 38 years of service with the SAPS, is the new detective branch commander.

He has been a detective for 36 years and was first appointed as a branch commander in 1994. Scheepers was previously stationed at the Actonville SAPS.

Clearly passionate about his work, he told the Brakpan Herald he has plans in place to improve the detection rate at the branch and to deal with outstanding suspects and cases.

He is confident his experience will be of great benefit to the community and the station.

Constable Audrey Buthelezi, who also lives in Brakpan, is the new communications officer at the station.

She replaces Lieutenant Colonel Pearl van Staad, who has been the Brakpan SAPS spokesperson since 2016.

Van Staad will remain at the station in Vispol Support.

Buthelezi started her police career in Brakpan as a reservist in 2016 and also used to volunteer at the local Victim Empowerment Centre.

She joined permanently in 2020 and has been stationed at Brakpan ever since. Buthelezi is also the new Sector One manager, another position previously held by Van Staad.

As a sector manager, Buthelezi stated she will focus all her efforts on the reduction of crime.
