Crafting with your preschoolers: Make a small felt purse

Making a small felt purse is a great craft to do with your preschooler, as it promotes creativity and fine motor skills.

Crafting is a great way to spend quality time with your child while promoting creativity and problem-solving skills. Making a small felt purse is a simple and fun craft that you can do with your preschooler, and the end result is a cute accessory that your child will love to use.

What you need

  • Felt fabric
  • Scissors
  • Ruler or measuring tape
  • Needle and thread
  • Buttons, beads, or other embellishments (optional)

How to make it

  1. Cut two pieces of felt into rectangles, making sure that they are the same size. These will be the front and back of the purse.
  2. Cut a strip of felt for the purse’s handle, and two smaller pieces for the flap and button closure.
  3. Using a needle and thread, sew the two rectangles together along three sides, leaving one of the shorter sides open. This will be the top of the purse.
  4. Fold the flap piece in half and sew it to the back of the purse, leaving enough space for the button closure.
  5. Sew the button to the front of the purse, ensuring it lines up with the flap.
  6. Fold the handle strip in half and sew it to the sides of the purse.
  7. Help your child add any embellishments, such as buttons or beads, to decorate their purse.
