Four-man gang steal till, cigarettes from petrol station

A white Renault used in the commission of the crime might be the same one used during a similar robbery a few days earlier.

A Voortrekker Road petrol station was targeted by alleged robbers during the early hours of January 20.

A petrol station employee told Brakpan police that a white Renault stopped at the garage at about 01:10, during load-shedding, and four men wearing balaclavas climbed out.

The employee alerted two of his colleagues, who then ran to the back of the shop.

One of the suspects grabbed the employee by the neck and ordered him to lie on the floor. He spoke Afrikaans and searched the employee, robbing him of his cellphone and wallet.

After taking a till from the shop and cartons of cigarettes, the foursome sped away.

As reported by the Brakpan Herald in last week’s edition (Weekend crime round-up), a similar robbery happened at a Dalview petrol station on January 14 at about 02:40.

That crime was also carried out by four men travelling in a white Renault.

Staff were threatened at gunpoint and robbed of their cellphones and cash. The suspects stole money, cigarettes and an airtime vending machine from the shop on the premises.
