Street shower helps homeless

184 people helped through street shower initiative.

Street shower initiative supports homeless community with hygiene and healthcare.

CHB Community Upliftment Centre’s street shower was held on Saturday and helped 144 adults and 40 children.

Two of the children were infants who were given bottles, nappies and formula.

The street shower helps homeless people regain some dignity by providing simple services such as haircuts, manicures and pedicures, and warm showers.

They also receive new clothes, underwear, a CV for the adults, a free health check-up and soup, pancakes and tea.

One of the older people appeared to have a heart problem but didn’t feel comfortable going to the hospital.

For this reason the initiative aims to build a relationship with the people so that they can eventually be helped off the street.

If they feel more secure, they will be empowered to seek care. That is why in 2022, four of these street showers were held and the next one for 2023 is already being planned.
