Weekend crime round-up

An overview of crimes reported to Brakpan police from August 26 to 28.

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Cigarettes, an airtime vending machine, groceries and other valuables were stolen during a burglary at a business along Victoria Avenu.

Saturday – A grey Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from Braemer Avenue in Dalview. The vehicle was later recovered in Vosloorus, Boksburg.

• An attempt was made to steal a red Toyota Etios Cross from Devon Street in Dalview. The vehicle had been moved from where the owner parked it. The culprits damaged the driver’s side door and ignition.

• A red Toyota Etios was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre in Brakpan North.

• A woman was assaulted and robbed after boarding a taxi with five male occupants along Gloucester Avenue in Dalview. The incident took place at about 16:00.

Once they had driven off, one of the men attacked her. The men accessed her banking app on her cellphone and transferred money from her account. They also took her bank cards and R350 in cash. The victim was dropped off in Dalpark.

Sunday – A white Ford Ranger bakkie was stolen from Voortrekker Road.

• A Withok Estate resident and his friends were ambushed by a gang of six robbers. The resident was hosting a party at his Hansen Street home when the robbers gained access to the property at about 02:10.

The man and his guests were threatened with guns and pangas. The robbers fled with a cellphone and cash.
