Weekend crime round-up

A woman was robbed of her belongings and almost raped after boarding a taxi along Boundary Road in Brenthurst at around 10:00.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

Friday – Truck wheels were stolen during a robbery at a business along Tinus de Jongh Street in Van Eck Park.
A security guard on duty was threatened at gunpoint by a gang of men who gained access to the premises at around 00:00.
The value of the stolen tyres is about R35 000.
* A man was assaulted and robbed of a large sum of cash along Voortrekker Road at 11:50.
The victim, who had stopped at a distribution company, returned to his vehicle with R140 000 concealed in his pockets and socks when he was attacked by two men.
One of them pointed a gun at him and he was searched.
The robbers took the cash, a cellphone, car keys, a wallet containing R210 and a bag containing a hookah pipe.
The victim was punched in the stomach and the robbers fled in a Nissan Tiida.
* A school child was robbed of his cellphone along Lapping Street in Brenthurst.
The incident took place around 15:00.
The culprit was apprehended and handed over to Brakpan police where he was detained.
* A white Nissan NP200 was stolen from an address along Gloucester Avenue in Kenleaf.
* Gardening equipment, tools, bicycles, liquor and other valuables were stolen during a break-in at a residence along Ellis Street in Brakpan North.
* A home in Station Road was burgled of pots, clothing and a cellphone.

Saturday – A guesthouse in Kitzinger Avenue was robbed at 02:20.
Three men, one of whom is known to the receptionist, arrived and wanted to book a room.
A scuffle between the receptionist and one of the men broke out after he informed them that three people are not permitted to share a room.
The receptionist sustained an injury to his arm and the trio fled with a cashbox containing R2 350.
* A woman was robbed of her belongings and almost raped after boarding a taxi along Boundary Road in Brenthurst at around 10:00.
The victim boarded the taxi and told the driver she wanted to go to Johannesburg.
There was another female passenger inside the taxi, who was later dropped off in town. Another man boarded and was then dropped off in Dalpark, leaving the victim and the driver alone in the vehicle.
The driver travelled towards Boksburg and then drove into a field.
He took out a gun, pointed it at the victim and demanded her cellphone and purse.
The driver also wanted the PIN for her bank card and the password for her phone.
The victim handed over the items and told the man she would give him more valuables if he took her home.
They drove off along the R23 (Heidelberg Road) towards Brakpan where the driver headed into an industrial area and again stopped in a field.
He told the victim to remove her pants, to which she objected.
He then got on top of her and tried to undress her.
The victim’s hands were tied together and she was gagged with her own shirt.
The driver then searched her handbag again and took two more cellphones.
The victim took this as an opportunity to escape and kicked the driver. She also managed to kick the door open and fled from the taxi.
She ran towards the N17 highway but her path was blocked by a fence.
When she looked back she saw the driver had fled.
The victim sought help at a business in Van Eck Park and called her boyfriend.
* Five motorcycles were stolen during a break-in at a business in Voortrekker Road.

Sunday – No priority cases were reported at the time of publication.
