Man attempts to rob store with toy gun

The stolen cash was returned to the owner and the toy gun was seized by police.

A Dalview shop owner was not playing games when he took on a robber who threatened him with a gun, which turned out to be a toy, on Monday evening.

According to police reports, the robber entered the Craigholm Street shop at 19:00 and pointed a gun at the owner.

He demanded money and the owner handed over R4 000.

It was when the robber turned around to help himself to a cooldrink in the fridge that the owner realised the gun was not real.

A struggle between the pair ensued and the owner overpowered the robber and struck him with a bottle.
Police were summoned and the robber was arrested and taken to the Far East Rand Hospital for medical treatment.

The stolen cash was returned to the owner and the toy gun was seized by police. A case of business robbery has been opened.
