No animals harmed as fire breaks out at local SPCA

Donations of bales to replace animals' feed destroyed in the fire will be gratefully received.

Quick reaction by staff members, Ekurhuleni Emergency Services and volunteers saw a fire at the Brakpan SPCA premises swiftly put out.

A fire spread from the surrounding area into the section where the farm animals are kept on Sunday around 3.50pm.

Society manager Tamaryn Lombard and stand-by staff member John Ragophala got the flames under control with buckets of water and a hosepipe.

Firefighters from the local fire station responded, and members of AfriForum with firefighting experience assisted without hesitation.

“Thanks to all of you our farm animals are safe without any harm,” said Brakpan SPCA chairperson Sanette Bosman, explaining they had just started clearing a fire break the day before.

“We will investigate to see where improvement can be made as to exactly how the fire reached the inside of our farmyard.”

Bosman also thanked Jonathan Venter and Sonja Schutte for donating animal feed after bales of feed were destroyed in the fire.
More donations will be gratefully accepted.
