Brakpan Spurs held to a draw

Their goal finally came when Valentines committed a foul in the penalty box to give Spurs a spot-kick.

Brakpan Spurs could not get their clearance to lease the Brakpan Sports Grounds in time for their clash against JST Valentines so they had to host the match, on Saturday, in Duduza.

That was the first negative sign for the local club.

Although the match ended in a 1-all draw, Spurs players felt like they had missed on an opportunity to collect all three points from the Easterns Local Football Association league match.

The match started with the Brakpan side in control and Tshepo Masilela came close to scoring early on but he could not hit the back of the net.

With Spurs applying the pressure, Valentines caught them on the break and scored against the run of play late in the first half.

The second period saw Spurs pushing for the equaliser but they struggled to get it. This led to frustration amongst the players as some received yellow cards for transgressions.

Their goal finally came when Valentines committed a foul in the penalty box to give Spurs a spot-kick.

Goalkeeper Dumisani Msiza came from his post to convert the penalty.

When it seemed as if Spurs could snatch the victory with another goal the frustration from earlier caught up to them when Jabulane Munene committed his second bookable offence and was given a red card.

Playing with 10 men killed off their chances of winning the match.

Munene will miss the matches against FC Amadino, on Saturday, and Boksburg FC, a week later.

Spurs’ u-17 side had an even worse weekend as they were hammered 7-2 by Alberton FC, on Saturday.
