City of Ekurhuleni employee caught on camera stealing cable

The footage from the CoE’s storeroom shows the employee taking electrical cable, and few spray paints without approval.

The City of Ekurhuleni revealed that the metro has arrested one of its own on a charge of theft, after he was caught on camera helping himself to the city’s assets – electrical cable, and a few spray paints.

The employee was arrested in Reiger Park by the EMPD’s Compliance-Loss Control and Investigation Unit Officers on December 1.

He works at one of the CoE’s main stores in Springs, where electrical cables and maintenance equipment are kept.

“As part of his regular duties, the store manager at the Springs branch was going through CCTV cameras footages when he noticed a very dedicated storeman borrowing a copper/aluminum electrical cable and few spray paints without approval. The EMPD crime-fighting team was notified and an investigation was launched.

“The storeman, who was not supposed to be on that restricted area at that time, couldn’t give clear answers of his deeds when confronted by the EMPD members. The off-duty employee was then taken to the Springs police station where he was formally charged.”

He is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges related to the theft of the items.
