Support the (Covid-19) two-day Toy Run this weekend

Good news for supporters and fans is that the 38th annual Toy Run is taking place this year – at Benoni Northerns again – just with a Covid-19 twist as a two-day event, this weekend.

In a first for the event’s long and charitable history, there will be no organised start venue as in previous years, where bikers normally gather for a parade through the streets and highways of Gauteng to the end venue, which has been Benoni Northerns sports grounds, in Northmead, for the past nine years.

Also a first is that it will not be a day event this year but a weekend event taking place on November 28 and 29.

According to the organisers, this is the new format of the event:

• The only toy collection points will be Irene Village and The Blockhouse, other than that riders can ride to Northerns to donate.

• Riders and the general public can drop off donations between 10am and 4pm.

• Everyone to use the entrance in Brodigan Street, opposite Benoni Northerns sports club. There will be no parking area open as it is a drive-through event this year.

• Identify the correct area at which to donate you type of gift and put it into the bags being held by the collection team (stations are, for example, boys, girls, babies, educational, teddies).

• All toy donations must be wrapped in clear plastic for sanitising. Donations will remain in clear plastic for a further 10 days before being distributed to children.

• Riders must register on the event registration website, Quicket, in order to be able say they participated in this unique toy run. Unregistered riders will not be officially recognised as having been part of the 2020 event.

Registration is free.

• All registered participants will go into a prize draw.

• Purchase a special limited edition Toy Run Gauteng 2020 commemorative badge for delivery or collection after the event, at Quicket.

• All Covid-19 protocols apply at the donation venue – wearing of masks, sanitising and social distancing.

The organising committee of the Gauteng Motorcycle Toy Run Trust thank everyone in advance for sticking to the rules of this year’s “Run that Isn’t One” and for their generous donations.
