Spike in battery theft

Police advised truck owners to engrave the batteries with identifiable marks, such as the truck's registration number.

Brakpan police have warned of an increase in the theft of batteries from trucks.

There has been a growing number of these thefts, according to the local SAPS, in which batteries are stolen from trucks that have stopped to make deliveries.

“It usually happens when truck drivers stop at malls or businesses to deliver goods,” said Lt Col Peet van der Schyff from the Brakpan SAPS.

“When the drivers return to the trucks, they find the batteries have been stolen.”
