Man’s body found hanging from high-voltage electrical pylon

To reach the body, a hydraulic platform was used to lift the rescuers.

Rescue teams from the City of Ekurhuleni recovered the charred body of a man found hanging from a high-voltage electrical pylon in Withok Estates on Wednesday.

The body was hanging from 88kV cables about 25m above the ground.

Teams from both the Tsakani and Brakpan Central fire stations responded to the scene near Lukas Steyn Road at around 4pm.

“On arrival, the body of a male was found hanging head down from the pylon,” said William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services.

“A hacksaw and a screwdriver were found on the ground directly underneath the body.

“It is alleged he was tampering with the cables and attempting to cut them off.”

In order to safely retrieve the body, electricians had to isolate the power supply from the power lines.

To reach the body, a hydraulic platform was used to lift the rescuers.

The man’s body was brought to the ground at 7.37pm.

The scene was handed over to police for further investigation.
