Motorist shot while waiting at traffic lights

The motive for the shooting is unknown.

A case of attempted murder is under investigation after a male motorist was shot while waiting at a traffic light along Athlone Avenue in Dalpark.

According to information received from Brakpan police, the incident took place around 4.45pm on Thursday, last week.

The victim, who was travelling in a bronze-coloured Toyota Fortuner, was stationary at the traffic lights at the Tambotie Street intersection when he heard gunshots next to his vehicle and saw the glass of his driver’s side window break.

He sustained a wound to the upper body and immediately sped off, overtaking two stationary vehicles in front of him.

The victim drove to the Brakpan Police Station, where he reported the shooting.

He was then taken to the Pholosong Hospital in Tsakani for medical treatment.
