Teen arrested for unlicensed gun

The 19-year-old was nabbed at around 2pm during a stop-and-search operation.

A teenager was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Brakpan on Sunday.

The 19-year-old was nabbed at around 2pm during a stop-and-search operation conducted by members of Brakpan SAPS Crime Prevention along New Kleinfontein Road in Leachville.

“The members stopped a motor vehicle with two occupants, one of whom was found in possession of a firearm,” said Capt Pearl van Staad, spokesperson for Brakpan police.

“He was unable to provide a licence for the firearm and was escorted to the Brakpan Police Station.”

At the station, the firearm was checked and identified as having belonged to a dead person.”The suspect was then arrested,” added van Staad.
