Taxi crashes into truck

The details surrounding the incident are not yet known.

One man was killed and several others were injured in Brakpan on Tuesday evening when a taxi rear-ended a truck at the R550 and R23 (Heidelberg Road) intersection.

ER24 paramedics, along with provincial services, arrived on the scene to find the vehicles in the middle of the road.

The taxi sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

Several people were found scattered around the scene.

“Medics assessed the patients and found that the taxi driver had sustained numerous fatal injuries,” said Russel Meiring from ER24.

“Nothing could be done for him and he was declared dead.”

Several other people were assessed on the scene. Three were found to be in a serious condition while others were found to have sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The patients were treated, and the seriously injured provided with pain-relief medication before they were transported by various services to nearby hospitals for further care.

The details surrounding the incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
