Organisation feeds hundreds of people each week: Here’s how you can help

The Harvest Covid-19 Relief Project is accepting monetary and food donations.

The Harvest Covid-19 Relief Project is calling on residents to help provide for people in need.

The non-profit organisation, which operates in Brakpan, has started a relief programme and feeding scheme to help minorities in the community who receive no assistance, such as foreign nationals, and especially children and the elderly.

The programme feeds between 200 and 300 people every week, and is also collecting food items to be distributed to families in need.

“It is intense, any donations will really help us,” said Yakima Waner, chairperson of the Harvest Project NPO.

In addition, the organisation is making and providing masks to the vulnerable, as well as gloves and sanitiser.

The masks are made by Yakima’s grandmother Catharina van der Merwe, whose kindness and generosity will go a long way in assisting those who need it most.

The organisation is accepting monetary and food donations.

Rice, maize, samp and other food items will be gratefully received.

Items can delivered to the Blessings Eco Preparatory School at 89 Kingsway Avenue.

People can also purchase a mask for R150 and the funds will help the organisation continue its efforts.

Yakima expressed her gratitude to St John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brakpan for their support of the project.
