Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A silver Toyota Etios was stolen from the Sherwood Shopping Centre in Brakpan North.

* The driver of a Toyota Hilux Dakar was hijacked near the N17 highway Brakpan off-ramp (Heidelberg Road).

The victim was forced to stop at around 10.20am when a white Volkswagen Tiguan travelling in front of him suddenly stopped.

He found himself surrounded by armed men, who climbed into the bakkie and pulled him from the driver’s seat into the back.

The victim’s face was covered and he was robbed of his cellphone.

He was driven around for about 10 minutes and then dropped off in a veld.

* Three burglaries took place.

These occurred at homes along Mans Street in Withok Estates, Charlton Street in Brakpan North and Kitzinger Avenue.

TVs, gardening equipment, a laptop, a DVD player and other household items were stolen.

* A car battery was stolen from a vehicle parked at an address along Escombe Avenue.

• Saturday – A white Nissan NP200 bakkie was stolen from Dirk van der Hoff Street in Rand Collieries.

* Hijackers masquerading as EMPD officers hijacked the driver of a truck along Denne Road in Witpoort Estates.

The truck was transporting meat to Cape Town.

The victim was pulled over a by a woman and a man dressed in EMPD uniform at around 11am.

They were travelling in an unmarked white Nissan double cab bakkie.

The victim was asked for his licence, which he gave to the woman.

He was then threatened with a firearm by the other “officer” and forced into a blue Nissan Tiida, which was parked on the side of the road.

The victim was driven to Boksburg, where he was let go in Dawn Park.

* A car parked along Goods Road was broken into and a toolbox and other valuables were stolen.

* Two men attacked and robbed a man along Gardiner Avenue.

The victim was waiting for a friend at around noon, when the pair assaulted him.

He was kicked and beaten.

After stealing the victim’s cellphone and R12 in cash, the robbers ran off.

• Sunday – A woman was robbed of her handbag while waiting for a taxi near Mkhankwa Village, along Second Road in Witpoort Estates.

The incident took place around 4.45am.

The man threatened the woman with a broken beer bottle and told her he would gouge her eyes out.

The contents of the bag included the victim’s cellphone, a set of keys and her purse, which contained cash and cards.
