Council working on horticultural maintenance backlog

"We have noted the request and will attend to it as soon as possible."

The Herald has received comment from the City of Ekurhuleni in response to a complaint from a resident about tall grass in Dalview.

The letter, submitted by Warren Styane, was published in the Herald’s January 24 edition (“Tall grass ignored”).

Styane explained he brought the matter to the attention of council on November 30.

“On January 12, the grass at the tennis courts had still not been attended to and, in some places, the grass was well over two metres long – perfect for criminals to hide,” he wrote.

In reply, City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson Themba Gadebe told the Herald the parks division is aware of the challenge regarding grass cutting.

“December was a very short month, with 130mm of rain, and closing of council offices during the festive season,” he said.

“This has created a backlog in terms of horticultural maintenance.

“We are currently prioritising main routes, town and entrances and school sidewalks.

“We are currently working overtime to catch up with the backlog.

“We have noted the request and will attend to it as soon as possible.”
