Take care while travelling during New Year’s Eve festivities

Here are some tips for save travelling.

Prepare for anything

Before you go away, prepare for anything.

Leave emergency contact information and a copy of your itinerary with loved ones.

Always make sure that you are aware of the closest hospital and police station at your holiday destination and save their contact details in your cellphone.

If you have allergies or a medical condition, wear a medical alert bracelet or carry a note from your doctor that explains your required treatment.

Packing essentials

Always take a medical kit with you.

You should also customise what you pack based on where you are going.

Remote areas, for instance, will offer limited options in an emergency.

Your medical kit should also include some basics such as painkillers, plasters, stomach medication, antibacterial gels, oral rehydration salts, bandages, anti-itch cream, anti-diarrhoea tablets, small cissors, tweezers, hand sanitiser and safety pins.

Travelling with children

As daunting as travelling with children may sound to some, there are some great ways to keep children entertained, healthy and safe while on the road. Allow yourselves resting time if you are driving long distances.

If you are flying, seat your children away from the aisle to avoid accidents with the refreshment trolley.

Keep hand wipes with you to wipe their hands as well as to wipe the drop-down table should your child eat during the flight.

You can prepare for the discomfort of changing air pressure with dummies, drinks and food such as cheese, nuts and pretzels.
