Six arrested during EMPD blitz

Four drunk drivers and two suspected drug dealers nabbed.

EMPD officers from the Tsakane, Benoni and Etwatwa precincts staged roving roadblocks and crime prevention operations in the Tsakane and Nigel areas on Tuesday and Wednesday during which four intoxicated drivers and two suspected drug peddlers were apprehended.

Along 12th Road in Tsakane on Tuesday, four male drivers, between the ages of 35 and 45, were breathalysed and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The quartet were escorted to the Tsakane Police Station.

Thirty traffic fines for defects on vehicles and a discontinue notice for operating an unroadworthy sedan on a public road were issued to lawbreakers.

Meanwhile in the Nigel area, at the Snake Park informal settlement, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members on a crime prevention operation on Wednesday morning, stopped and body-searched two suspicious-looking men.

Five pieces of the drug known as rock, to the value of R500, was confiscated, as well as R80 cash.

The pair, aged 22 and 25, was taken to the Nigel Police Station where charges of possession and possible dealing in an illicit substance were registered against them.
