The cellphone number reflected on the job advertisements was the suspect's downfall.

A City of Ekurhuleni employee was arrested on Friday following in-depth and lengthy investigations after complaints were received about him selling jobs.

It is alleged the 39-year-old, who works in the human resources department in Germiston, was selling positions advertised at the City of Ekurhuleni.

“The suspect was picked up from his residence in Benoni on Friday morning around 9am,” said EMPD spokesperson Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.

“He had just resumed duties on May 2 following a three-month suspension.

“Investigations revealed that an Eastern Cape man, who visited Ekurhuleni in 2014, had his identity document and cellphone stolen.
