Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – A man was robbed of a large sum of cash outside a company along Molecule Road in Vulcania.

The incident took place at about 4pm.

After parking his car, the victim was confronted by two gunmen who demanded money.

The robbers made their getaway in a white Volkswagen Polo.

* A man was arrested after a home in Sapelie Avenue, Leachville, was burgled of clothes and tools.

* A white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was stolen from Elizabeth Eybers Street in Dalpark.

• Saturday – A white Toyota Etios was stolen from the corner of Prince George Avenue and Voortrekker Road.

* Several cellphones were stolen during a break-in at a Voortrekker Road business.

* A woman was robbed of her belongings by two women at Mall@Carnival.

The victim was shopping at around 3pm when one of the women struck up a conversation with her.

The pair later followed the victim out of the store and cornered her, taking her handbag, jewellery and groceries.

* A man was robbed of R30 000 shortly after leaving a bank at Mall@Carnival, from where he had just withdrawn the cash.

The victim was returning to his car at about 10.15am when he was threatened by a man armed with a gun.

The robber instructed the victim to get into the vehicle and drive.

Once they reached a secluded area near Vulcania, the robber took the cash and the victim’s cellphone and ran away.

• The driver of a white Mercedes-Benz was hijacked at approximately 11am along the N17 highway near Dalpark.

The victim claims three vehicles – a silver Toyota Corolla, a white Isuzu bakkie and a grey Mercedes-Benz – boxed him in and he was forced to stop.

Three men appeared at his car and climbed in, pushing him to the backseat.

The hijackers drove around with the victim while they withdrew money from his various bank accounts.

He was also robbed of cash, a laptop and three cellphones.

After several hours, the victim was dropped off at an undisclosed location.

• Sunday – Two cars were stolen.

A white Toyota Etios was stolen from Mitchell Crescent in Brenthurst and a white Opel Kadett was stolen from Bleskbok Avenue in Leachville.

* Two homes in Brenthurst were broken into.

A residence in Tweedy Road was burgled of cash, while a TV, jewellery and cellphones were stolen from an address along Olga Street.
