Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (May 14 to 15):

• Attempted murder: 1
• Theft of motor vehicle: 1

No arrests were made.

Murder:

• No details were provided.

Attempted murder:

• A man and a woman were stuck by a car while walking at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Power Street on Sunday.

The incident took place at about 5.30pm and it is believed the culprit deliberately drove into them.

Both victims sustained injuries to their legs.

Police later arrested a male suspect.

Hijacking:

• The driver of a cream-coloured Toyota Quantum transporting clothing was hijacked by three men yesterday (Monday).

The victim was approaching the Dalpark Toll Plaza along the N17 highway at around 2.30pm, when he noticed a white Mazda 5 behind him, flashing its lights.

According to information received from the Brakpan SAPS, the victim pulled over thinking it was the police.

One of the Mazda’s three occupants opened the Quantum’s passenger side door and pointed a gun at the victim.

He was forced into the back of the vehicle and his hands were bound with his belt.

The victim was driven to an unknown location where the clothing was offloaded.

They then bundled the victim into the Mazda and travelled to Alberton, where they dropped him off near the highway.

He was given R50 taxi fare and the hijackers drove off.

The victim was also robbed of two cellphones and his wallet containing cash and his driver’s licence.

Burglary:

• Morris Place, Kenleaf.

The break-in took place yesterday.

Stolen: A laptop, games (not specified) and a wristwatch.

Theft of motor vehicle:

• A white Chevrolet Aveo was stolen from an address along Queen Avenue on Sunday.
