Daily crime watch

The following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the past 24 hours (December 7 to 8):

Cases reported:

Attempted hijacking:

• Two-would be hijackers were forced to flee empty-handed after failing to start the car they intended to steal.

The driver of a white Hyundai i20 was confronted by the pair when he stopped at an address along Taft Avenue, last night (Thursday) at about 9pm.

The victim pulled up to the house and sounded the hooter to alert the occupants to his arrival.

While waiting for someone to open the front gate, the victim saw two men running towards his car.

One of the men opened the driver’s side door and pointed a gun at the victim.

The victim got out of the vehicle and tried to throw the car keys, but they fell  between the seats.

He ran off and, realising his phone was still in the car, pretended to call the police.

The men, who were struggling to start the car, overheard the victim “on the phone” and quickly fled the scene on foot.

Burglary:

• Stoffberg Avenue, Dalview.

The garage on the property was broken into on Wednesday.

Stolen: Two bicycles, camping chairs, clothes and suitcases.

• Wenden Avenue.

The break-in took place yesterday.

Stolen: Two TVs, a DVD player, tablet and a pocket knife.

• New Kleinfontein Road, Leachville.

The burglary occurred yesterday.

Stolen: A TV.

• Muir Avenue.

The home was burgled yesterday.

Stolen: A TV.

Theft from motor vehicle:

• Tyres and rims were stolen from a car parked at an address along Lester Road in Brenthurst on Wednesday.
