Brenthurst to have its own ‘Plastic City’

I live in Hofmeyer Street and every morning I get to see a new silver roof pop up in the field opposite my house.

Brenthurst resident writes by email:

I’m in shock and disgusted.

I live in Hofmeyer Street and every morning I get to see a new silver roof pop up in the field opposite my house.

We have lived here for 14-plus years and have never had problems.

What’s going to happen now?

I see our beautiful field turning into the next plastic squatter camp.

As it is, we have taxis taking a ‘shortcut’ through the field – I wonder who graded the road?

My mom and I recently took a walk through the field and I was amazed at how many plastic bottles were already there.

There were only a few shacks then – I couldn’t even see them from my house.

Within a month I could see them clearly and so many people walking through the field.

I wonder who will buy our house now?

I wonder who is going to pay for the loss in our property’s value?

Ward councillor Brandon Pretorius, thank you for always trying to assist, but I honestly think your hands are tied.

I have noticed there have been attempts to evict the squatters, but soon after 20 more shacks pop up.

This is really so sad.
