Springing to their own defence
The Stop Violence Against Women and Children Project was held at Laerskool Dalview.
A large group of women and children from Brakpan, Geluksdal and Tsakane attended a free self-defence class on Saturday morning.

The event was overseen by two Brakpan DA ward councillors, Stefanie Ueckerman and Brandon Pretorius, as well as MP Gordon Mackay who is the political head of the Brakpan DA, as well as the DA’s Shadow Minister for Energy.
Bryan and Sharon Coetzee, from Warzone, demonstrated some non-lethal self-defence equipment while Shawn Hefer, Gus Sunde and Luci Aucamp, from the Brakpan Aikido Centre, showed the attendees a couple of self-defence moves.
“Because the morning was such a success, we will be hosting another self-defence demonstration on October 14,” said Ueckerman.
The venue for the next demonstration will be confirmed.
