Ken Block coming to Carnival

Are you ready to head on the safari of shred, and to braai some tyres?

Gymkhana GRiD is boosting away from European shores and heading for the sun-scorched asphalt of South Africa for its 2017 season-ending showdown.

Now celebrating its sixth year of tyre-slaying competition, Gymkhana GRiD is locked and loaded for November 18 and November 19, and is set to shred the tread at Carnival City.

Haven’t heard of Gymkhana GRiD before?

It is a racing format like no other that mixes doughnuts with clipping points, and powerslides with apexes.

It’s the tyre smoke-filled vision of racing genius and rally driving extraordinaire Ken Block.

Motorsport icon Ken Block is heading to Carnival City in November.

Gymkhana GRiD’s unique competition setup is unlike any other, and allows small power to take down big brake horsepower (BHP) in all out automotive combat.

Split into two classes, Gymkhana GRiD gives drivers of All Wheel Drive (AWD) and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) cars the chance to go head to head, and against the clock, on a custom-designed course.

What’s more, it’s set to be an epic double-header of season showdowns, with the finale of the 2017 FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy taking place in Cape Town just seven sun-scorched days before Gymkhana GRiD’s finale in Carnival City.

“Gymkhana GRiD has been growing year on year, and to have it expand to an incredible country like South Africa is exciting.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Ken Block.

“When I was last there for Clarkson, Hammond and May Live in 2016 my team and I had such a warm welcome.

“South Africans are extremely passionate about motorsport, and I enjoyed my time down there a lot.

“We have some big plans in place for the GRiD track this year – it’s going to bigger and better than ever before.”
