Organisation gives back to the community on Mandela Day

The team donated reading glasses, as well as books and study material to promote reading.

Non-profit organisation K’sasalethu celebrated Nelson Mandela’s birthday on Tuesday, last week, with an array of activities in Brakpan and the surrounding area.

The Springs-based organisation aims to transform and develop the disadvantaged youth and community members in and around Ekurhuleni by means of skills development and specific initiatives and campaigns.

To commemorate International Mandela Day, a team from K’sasalethu visited the Mkhankwa Village informal settlement near Ergo, the Leht’ukukhanya Care Centre in Withok Estates and the Ndaba Tree in KwaThema.

At Mkhankwa Village, the team donated clothes and books to community members.

They then went to the Leth’ukukhanya Care Centre, a home for orphaned children, where the team helped clean the centre and donated clothes to the children.

They ended the day at the Ndaba Tree in KwaThema, where an Albinism awareness event was taking place.

The team donated reading glasses, as well as books and study material to promote reading.

Young Ekurhuleni residents between the ages of 16 and 35 who would like to join the K’sasalethu volunteer team or who are able to assist the organisation in the form of a donation or any other way, can send an email to info@ksasalethu.org.za
