Brakpan has been my second home since my sister moved to South Africa 10 years ago.

• What has your experience been at the Herald’s office?

I had an eye-opening experience at the Brakpan Herald and I really look forward to working with Caxton in the future. I learnt a lot as I was given the opportunity to experience how different departments operate – right from the newsroom to the sales department.

• What do you see on the horizon for your line of work?

I love journalism and as I write my own story in the media industry, I see myself advancing and becoming a new-media entrepreneur who will offer more opportunities to aspiring young journalists.

• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?

I am a ferocious reader and am really interested in fiction novels.

• Who or what inspires you?

My inspiration basically comes from being a girl child in a generation where women are striving to break all social barriers to gain economic, political and social independence. I am a young woman who remains highly inspired by successful fellow women who are successful in leadership positions throughout the world.

• What achievement are you most proud of ?

During my work experience at The Herald, a daily newspaper in Zimbabwe, I was voted Best Junior Reporter of the Year, in 2015. I remain proud of that.

• How would you describe yourself in three words?

Self-less, hardworking goal-getter.

• If you could only keep one possession, what would it be?

My cell phone; it keeps me in contact with the most important aspects of my life, I can read my emails, write stories and documents as well as connect (socially) to the larger world through one device.

• If you could change one thing in the country, what would it be?

The level of tolerance. We need to tolerate immigrants and co-existence peacefully. This is important because it will curb xenophobic tendencies in the country.

• What do you like most about Brakpan and why?

I really appreciate the unity of purpose that exists among the Brakpan community. People are friendly and as a foreigner, I really feel content and safe in Brakpan.

• Is there anything you would like to add?

Most importantly, Brakpan Herald staff have been amazing. I highly appreciate their efforts – they made sure that I acquired the best skills in a short period of time. Thank you, Thelma and team.
