Sgt Priscilla Kunene (37) is the Brakpan Police Station’s designated officer for all matters relating to liquor and second-hand goods. The Sergeant lives in Germiston and is married with two children.
• How long have you been with the SAPS?
Fourteen years.
• What sparked your interest in policing?
I wanted to fight crime.
I am also passionate about helping others.
• What do you like most about your job? Why?
I am a people person and I like that I am able to interact with different people on a daily basis.
I also enjoy helping people who are in need of help.
• What is your least favourite part of the job?
It’s a dangerous job to be a police officer in South Africa.
• If you weren’t a police officer, what would you be?
A food psychologist (food psychology is the study of the mental processes behind how and why we eat).
• Do you have any hobbies or special interests?
Playing netball and watching TV.
• What motivates you?
My family.
• What advice would you give to young people wanting to work in the SAPS?
Being in the police is a calling.
You have to love what you do.
• What’s your favourite thing about Brakpan?
I get to work with all kinds of people from different walks of life.
