Slide into some motoring action

Be sure not to miss this exhilarating event.

Carnival City will play host to the third round of the Supadrift National Series on Friday, June 30 and Saturday, July 1.

But, this time, the sounds of newly built engines will roar even louder across Ekurhuleni.

Drifting has been introduced to Carnival City thrice before and it has hosted exciting international events, like notorious drifter Mad Mike, from New Zealand.

This time it’s local and ‘lekker’ and South Africa’s best are at it again.

Drifters will power-slide across the Brakpan tarmac, with the screech and scream of turbos, the loud thunder of V8s and the undeniable slide of colourful rear-wheel drive cars.

“We are expecting a day full of energy, excitement and things never seen before as we host the third round of the SupaDrift National Series on June 30 and July 1,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager of Carnival City.

“We enjoy playing host to a diversity of performers, not only on our stages but outdoors as well.”

SupaDrift Series’ co-owner Mikey Skelton said: “The SupaDrift is a conglomeration of excitement and sensory overload.

“Newly built cars will be showcased and will be seen for the first time at this stopover and we cannot wait to watch the country’s best going sideways, door-to-door and wheel-to-wheel.”

Series leader Shane Gutzeit, from Port Shepstone, is revelling in his last victory at his own track, but Jim McFarlane, from Benoni, representing series sponsor Achilles Tyres, has already laid down the challenge in his Ekurhuleni backyard and is certainly looking forward to the challenge and the stiff competition.

“It’s a tight track and not very fast, which essentially gives all drivers the opportunity to do well,” added Skelton.

Tickets can be bought at the gate.

Gates open two hours before the start of the show, from noon to 5pm on Friday, June 30, and from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, July 1.
