Police smell a rat, give chase and get their men

One of the arrested suspects was out on parole.

A high-speed car chase through the streets of Dalpark last week netted two arrests and the recovery of two unlicensed firearms.

According to information received from the local SAPS, one of the arrested suspects has a slew of previous convictions and was out on parole.

The incident took place on Thursday when patrolling officers attempted to pull over a suspicious-looking vehicle with three occupants along Airport Drive, near Mall@Carnival, at around 3pm.

“The driver of the vehicle sped off towards Boksburg and the officers gave chase,” said Brakpan SAPS spokesperson Capt Pearl van Staad.

After racing through red traffic lights, the driver lost control of the vehicle along Jubilee Road, near the Boksburg Stadium.

“The three suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran from the scene,” said van Staad.

“Police managed to arrest two of the suspects, while the third evaded capture.”

Two unlicensed firearms were also recovered.

Investigations revealed that the vehicle the suspects were travelling in, a champagne-coloured Audi A4, was hijacked in Norkem Park earlier this year.

It was also discovered that one of the suspects, aged 29, has previous convictions for possession of an unlicensed firearm (Tembisa case), hijacking (Norkem Park case) and housebreaking and theft (Kempton Park case).

The other suspect, aged 24, has no previous convictions.

Both men were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms.
