Weekend crime round-up

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the long weekend:

• Friday – A female motorist was robbed of her handbag in a smash-and-grab incident along Voortrekker Road, near Station Road.

The victim was stationary at the intersection at 2.15pm when a man smashed her vehicle’s window and grabbed her bag.

The bag contained cosmetics.

* A security guard on duty at the Schapenrust Railway Station, in Brenthurst, was robbed by three men.

The guard was patrolling at around 4.30pm, when he saw three men approaching him.

One of the men pointed a gun at the guard and demanded his firearm.

The guard told the robbers he doesn’t have a gun and the men began to search him.

They took the guard’s cellphone and fled.

One suspect was later arrested.

* A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from Dirk van der Hoff Street, in Dalview.

* Two burglaries were reported.

A DVD player, a microwave, a portable radio, two cellphones, a gas bottle, a two plate stove and clothes were stolen from an address along Hamilton Avenue, while a television set, a car radio and an ID book were stolen from a home in Sterkbos Street, Dalpark.

• Saturday – The driver of a Mercedes Benz C180 Kompressor was hijacked in Sabie Avenue, Leachville.

The victim and passenger arrived at an address along this street just after midnight, and the passenger climbed out of the car to open the driveway gates.

As the driver pulled the car into the yard, the car door suddenly opened and a man pointed a gun at the driver.

A second hijacker appeared and pulled the driver from the car, hitting and kicking him, and forcing him on the ground.

This man reversed the vehicle while the first hijacker kept his gun pointed at the victim, repeatedly telling him ‘I will shoot you’.

The armed hijacker climbed into the car, and the victim noticed another two men get into the vehicle, which then sped off.

Valuable items inside the car included a tablet, a laptop and fishing equipment.

* A man was robbed of his cellphone, wallet and work uniform while walking along Denne Road, in Rand Collieries.

The victim was on his way home at 5.25am, when he was confronted by three men.

The men searched the victim, taking his cellphone and wallet, and his bag, which contained his work uniform.

* A response officer from a security company was shot when he responded to a robbery at a liquor store along Prince George Avenue.

A gang of about eight men entered the store at about 10.30am and theatened staff at gunpoint.

While the robbers took cash from the tills, one of the staff members pressed the panic button, alerting the security company to the incident.

One of the robbers opened fire on the response officer as he arrived, shooting him in the neck.

The officer was robbed of his firearm and the robbers fled the store.

An eye-witness told police he saw a white Toyota Quantum near the scene.

The officer was taken to hospital.

* Two vehicles were stolen.

A white Hyundai H100 was stolen from Voortrekker Road and a white Toyota Hilux bakkie was stolen from Heidelberg Road, in Dalpark.

* A battery was stolen from a car parked at the corner of Northdene Aveneue and Prince George Avenue.

• Sunday – A home along Van Zyl Street, in Brenthurst, was burgled of a television set, a tablet and jewellery.

• Monday – No information pertaining to incidents that took place on Monday was received.

Other:

• Thursday – While waiting for their order at the drive-thru of a fast food eatery at the Mall@Carnival, a man, his wife and three friends were confronted by suspected hijackers.

The incident took place at about 1am.

The group noticed a white Volkswagen Citi Golf with three occupants stopping in the road nearby.

One of the occupants cocked a firearm and pointed it at the group, while another alighted the vehicle and ran towards their car, screaming.

The man then tried to pull the driver from the car, but failed because the driver was wearing his safety belt.

The driver reversed his car and the man returned to his vehicle, which then drove off.

It is suspected the men wanted to hijack the car the victims was travelling in.

* A home along Stoffberg Avenue was burgled of a television set, blankets, a carpet, a kettle, cutlery, a fridge, clothes, bedding and a bathroom tap.

* A black Papama motorcycle was stolen from Lotus Avenue, in Kenleaf.
