Weekend crime round-up

The hijackers forced the victim to lie on the ground.

According to information received, the following crimes were reported to Brakpan police over the weekend:

• Friday – Tyres were stolen from a truck trailer parked at an address along Porter Avenue.

* A female motorist was robbed of her handbag by a smash-and-grab thief at the corner of Voortrekker Road and Station Road.

The woman was stationary at the traffic lights when a man broke the front passenger window and grabbed her bag.

The bag contained cash, her bankcard, a camera and cellphone.

The incident took place at 6.10pm.

* A business situated along Lemmer Road, in Vulcania, was robbed by three men.

The men threatened staff members at gunpoint at around midday and locked them in a store room.

The robbers helped themselves to a large sum of cash from a safe on the premises.

* A case of common robbery was opened after a motorist was robbed along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark.

The victim told police he was driving near Mall@Carnival at 7.30pm when he was forced off the road by a red Honda (model not provided) and a White Toyota Corolla.

He pulled over on the side of the road and the two vehicles also stopped.

The driver of the Honda alighted the vehicle brandishing a baseball bat and confronted the victim, striking his arm with the bat.

The driver took a wallet and GPS device from the victim’s car, as well as the keys from the ignition.

He then returned to his own car and sped off.

* Three armed men robbed a group of schoolchildren in Brenthurst.

The group was confronted by the robbers at the corner of Tinker Road and Tweedy Street, at about 3pm.

They threatened the children with a gun and stole a cellphone.

One suspect was later arrested and the gun was seized.

• Saturday – A silver Toyota Etios Cross was stolen from Mall@Carnival.

The theft took place between 11.10am and 2.45pm.

* Two homes were burgled.

Three television sets and a kettle were stolen from an address along 15th Road, in Sallies Village, and a geyser was stolen from a vacant property at the corner of Northdene Avenue and Prince George Avenue.

* A shop along Rangeview Road, in Dalpark, was robbed by three men at around 5pm.

Two men entered the store and threatened the staff and owners with firearms.

A third robber joined the pair and the victims were searched.

A substantial amount of cash and two cellphones were stolen.

The robbers fled in a grey Toyota Avanza, which was followed by a blue Ford Focus.

* The driver of a silver Audi A3 was robbed of his vehicle at the corner of Boundary Road and Cavendish Street.

The victim stopped at a three-way-stop at 10.45pm and noticed a green Volkswagen Polo stopped across from him.

The Polo pulled off and suddenly stopped in front of the victim’s car.

Two men alighted the car and ran towards the Audi.

One of the men was armed with a gun, while the other had a knife.

The victim was ordered out of the car and was robbed of his cellphone.

The hijackers forced the victim to lie on the ground, and the men climbed into the Audi and sped off.

The victim’s wallet was in the vehicle.

• Sunday – Two television sets and a games console were stolen from a home in Ruth Road, Sunair Park.

The break-in took place between 8.30am and 1pm.

* A smash-and-grab incident took place at the corner of Boundary Road and Prince George Avenue at 5.15pm.

A thief broke the passenger window as the female motorist was stationary at the traffic lights.

The woman’s purse and cellphone were stolen.

Other cases reported:

• Thursday – A home along Colliery Road, in Rand Collieries, was burgled of a television set, DVD player and other electronic devices.
