Brakpan SPCA inspectors recently came to the aid of a young boy whose bicycle was stolen.

According to the local society manager, Ming Church, inspector Tamaryn Lombard and trainee inspector Roxanne Barnard were conducting an inspection at an address along Gates Street, in Brenthurst, on Thursday, last week, when they heard a young boy screaming for help.

The youngster was chasing after a thief who had stolen his bicycle.

“Inspector Lombard drove towards the incident where the young man, named AJ, said that his bicycle had just been stolen and asked if they could assist,” said Church.

“Inspector Lombard said she would try and track the thief down and drove in the direction where the thief had gone.”

The inspectors found the thief pushing the bicycle along Haggart Street, where they then approached him and shouted at him to stop.

The thief threw the bicycle towards the SPCA vehicle, which caused damage to the vehicle’s tyre.

The thief also dropped a school bag in the middle of the road and ran away.

The inspectors returned the bicycle to its rightful owner and managed to change their vehicle’s tyre.

The SPCA have the school bag, which is branded with Laerskool Dalview and has the name Morgan on it, in their possession.

The society is appealing to members of the public to assist with a donation to replace their vehicle’s tyre as the spare is now being used.

The SPCA can be contacted on 011 742 2007.
