Starving and injured boerboel rescued

The badly malnourished dog weighed only 47kg and had to be treated immediately for an infected wound on its left hind leg.

Inspectors of the Brakpan SPCA confiscated a starving male boerboel which was left abandoned at a property in Brakpan, on Friday.

The badly malnourished dog weighed only 47kg and had to be treated immediately for an infected wound on its left hind leg.

Brakpan SPCA manager, Ming Church, has put out a plea for assistance with the animal’s medical treatment which has so far added up to R898 for antibiotics to fight the infection.

“We are also asking if someone could assist with good dog food such as Hills or Optiwoof as this will assist the dog to gain weight and to take in proper nutrition,” Church added.

Members of the public who are able to assist with either food or a monetary donation for the medical costs can contact Church or inspector Tamaryn Lombard the Brakpan SPCA on 011 742 2007.
