War declared on water leaks

This is aimed at curbing water loss.

The City of Ekurhuleni has adopted 52 water agents from Rand Water who have been trained in water demand management strategy, basic plumbing and reading of water meters.

The water agents will, for the next five months, be paired with the existing 120 Ekurhuleni Community Water Ambassadors in their war against leaks.

This is aimed at curbing water loss.

While the ambassadors carry out their tasks of collecting data, evaluating water meter conditions, leakages and loss-related issues in identified areas with high water consumption, the agents will be solely responsible for repairing and identifying faulty water meters and conducting public education on effective water usage.

During the door-to-door visits residents will also be trained on how to read their water meters to equip them with the knowledge of monitoring their water consumption and how to identify household leaks or discrepancies with their meters that could affect their bills.

The data collected by both the water agents and ambassadors will be captured on the municipal system for further intervention and followed up by Ekurhuleni technicians to be resolved within 48 hours.
