Suspicious driving leads to arrests

It was found that the 32-year-old man had previously been arrested for hijacking and fraud, and the 27-year-old is wanted on a case of fraud and assault, in Meyerton.

Local police have not excluded the possibility that three men arrested on Monday, on charges of house robbery and housebreaking, could be linked to more cases.

The trio, aged 27, 32 and 34, were arrested by members of the Brakpan Anti-Hijacking Task Team along Voortrekker Road, at about 12.30pm.

“Members spotted a black Mercedes Benz Vito in town and the driver didn’t seem to know where he was going, which aroused suspicion,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

The task team stopped the vehicle and the three occupants were interviewed.

“After further investigation it was found that the men can be linked to Brakpan cases of house robbery and housebreaking,” said Joubert.

“It is alleged that the Vito was used during these crimes.”

It was found that the 32-year-old man had previously been arrested for hijacking and fraud, and the 27-year-old is wanted on a case of fraud and assault, in Meyerton.

The three men were arrested and the Vito was seized and taken to the SAPS Van Ryn Deep Vehicle Pound, in Benoni.

The police investigation continues.
