Celebrate sporting achievements

The Samsung South African Sport Hall of Fame comes to Carnival City this weekend, following a successful exhibition at Sun City during the December 2015 holidays.

Sports enthusiasts young and old are encouraged to celebrate the country’s rich sporting history at the expo, which will be housed in Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre, from April 9 to 24.

Amongst the attractions will be the opportunity for visitors to test their skills with virtual simulators for golf, rugby and soccer.

Visitors will also get to meet and greet some of South Africa’s sporting greats from today and yesteryear, as well as having an exclusive look at what they can expect from the future permanent home of the South African Sport Hall of Fame, which is currently being built at Sun City’s Entertainment Centre.

Live sporting events will also be broadcast on a big screen, including Super Rugby matches with celebrity guests such as Danie Gerber, Chester Williams, Derick Hougaard and more on April 9, 17 and 23, .

The roaming Samsung South African Sport Hall of Fame is brought to Carnival City by Samsung and Sun International.

The official partners of the South African Sport Hall of Fame will also be showcasing their latest products, including Samsung and Subaru.

Food, drinks, sports clothing and memorabilia will be available for purchase from various exhibitors.

A nominal entrance fee will be charged, while children under 12 years old will gain free entrance.

“We are extremely excited about the rebirth of the SA Sport Hall of Fame,” said the facility’s Johnny Burger.

“We support and endorse the 32 sporting disciplines recognised by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), so we have a lot of ground to cover.

“The Samsung Roaming Exhibition is the perfect tool to increase awareness and educate our future sporting legends about the Hall of Fame and our endeavours.”

The primary objective of the Hall of Fame is to acknowledge and preserve South Africa’s rich and diverse sporting heritage by:

  • Creating a permanent home for the legacy of our “sporting greats” and honouring their achievements.
  • Creating an opportunity for all South Africans to experience the thrill of world sport through state-of-the art technology and virtual gear.
  • Launching community-based projects that tell the story of how sport has played a role in uniting the nation.
  • Promoting the positive values of hard work, dedication and commitment that sport can instill in society as a whole.
  • Identifying and nurturing talent – specifically among those South Africans who don’t have the means to realise their dreams. This will be done through coaching clinics, bursaries, scholarships and mentorships.
