Kuhn stars in Benoni again

The Unlimited Titans went top of the Sunfoil Series log with a four-wicket victory over the Sunfoil Dolphins on the fourth and final day of the match played at Sahara Park Willowmoore on Sunday, January 17.

Their victory over their coastal opponents sees the Titans go 5.56 points ahead of the bizhub Highveld Lions on the table.

It was the experienced head of opening batsman Heino Kuhn who steered the hosts to the win in Benoni with two excellent innings.

The Dolphins, batting first on Thursday, January 14, put on a score of 357 on day one with Imran Khan (83), Khaya Zondo (65) and Daryn Smit (85) contributing the bulk of the runs to that total.

Veteran Titans bowler Ethy Mbalati was the pick of the home side’s bowlers with figures of 4/48 in 20 overs.

Marchant de Lange’s 3/79 in 19 overs was the next best bowling statistics.

An opening stand of 181 runs between Kuhn, who scored an impressive 129 runs, and Grant Mokoena (75) set the Titans up well for a score of 440 all out, a lead of 83, while Theunis De Bruyn’s first innings knock of 123 runs can not be overlooked either.

A tenacious second innings century from Imraan Khan (106) was not enough to save the Dolphins as they were bowled out for 255.

It was the eventual Man-of-the-Match Kuhn whose 62 runs in the second innings (despite the fall of six Titans wickets) saw the team reach the 175 run target and secure an important victory.

  • The Titans will return to Benoni on Friday, January 29, in the shorter, 50 over format, when they host the VKB Knights in a Momentum One Day Cup fixture.

The match is scheduled to start at 4pm.
