Puppies dumped at SPCA: 4 die

Staff members of the Brakpan SPCA were appalled on Tuesday afternoon, when six puppies were found dumped right in front of the open gates of the society, along Denne Road.

According to the manager, Ming Church, the cross-Labrador puppies were very dehydrated and worm invested.

“Our offices as well as the after hours kennel were still open and there is absolutely no excuse for doing it in the the manner it was done,” added Church.

“There was a very strong wind. The box could easily have been blown over or the puppies could have managed to get out of the box.”

Ming added that the pups are being dewormed and treated and will not be ready for adoption straight away.

The Brakpan SPCA has appealed to residents not to abandon their unwanted pets.

“If you can no longer care for your pets, please don’t just dump them,” said Church.

It was brought to the attention of the Herald that four of the six puppies has since died due to illness and very severe worm infestation. A close eye is being kept on the two remaining puppies.

Residents are requested to surrender unwanted animals to the SPCA, where they can receive proper care.

The Brakpan SPCA also has a kennel in which animals can be surrendered after hours.

The SPCA is situated at 96 Denne Road, Withok, and can be contacted on 011 742 2007.
