Home sweet home

When Marge Wilkinson (85) moved out of her family home, situated at 63 Germains Avenue, at the age of 17, she had no idea that she would ever live in the same house again.

Today, 68 years later, she is sharing the same house with many fellow residents but she is happy to “be home”.

The big family home, where Marge lived with her family, became the Ebenhaezer Old Age Home and has been a place of comfort for many elderly and frail people over the years.

Wilkinson, who is known for her involvement with the Brakpan Horticultural Society, The Bizzie Lizzies and many other organisations in town has recently become a resident of the home.

She lived in her own house in Kitzinger Avenue for 53 years but made the decision to move to Ebenheazer due to bad health.

“I was very young when we lived in this house, but I still have good memories,” said Marge.

She remembers the tennis court, which does not exist anymore, and she can remember exactly where her room used to be.

“It was upstairs in the corner and as soon as I feel better I am going to go up the stairs to see my old room,” said Marge.
