Get ready for SA’s first rock super group

Fans of South African rock music are in for a superlative treat in July when no less than 10 of the country’s top artists unite for a one-night-only concert, Blood Brothers, at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.

On the bill for the rare music event on July 18 are Francois Van Coke of Fokofpolisiekar and Van Coke Kartel fame, Kobus de Kock jnr from Black Cat Bones, Arno Carstens from Springbok Nude Girls, George van der Spuy of the bands Taxi Violence and Goodnight Wembley, and Albert Frost, from the Blues Broers.

They will be backed by Hunter Kennedy (Fokofpolisiekar and Heuwels Fantasties) and Rian Zietsman (Taxi Violence and Beast) on guitar Loedi van Reenen (Taxi Violence) on bass, and Jason Hinch (Black Cat Bones) and Isaac Klawansky (Shadowclub) on drums.

“We are counting down to what promises to be one of the highlights of Carnival City’s winter entertainment line-up,” said Matthew Cook, Carnival City’s entertainment manager.

“Revelers can look forward to three hours of non-stop power hits by some of South Africa’s most notable singers and musicians.

“We urge people to book in advance because we anticipate a capacity crowd for this show.”

According to Cook, the concert is a fundraiser in aid of the Vrede Foundation, an initiative that helps to educate young people about cancer.vrede

“Blood Brothers is South Africa’s first rock super group, and these local music legends are standing together for an excellent cause,” said Cook.

Each super group band member has been cherry-picked from South Africa’s premier crop of musicians and bands.

The choices are bold, the talent undeniable, and the result will be unforgettable.

As one band, they’ll unite to conquer in their biggest struggle yet.

They’ll perform the major hits that made them famous, plus they’ll take on songs from the international bands that influenced their sound.

Never before have so many local legends agreed to partake in a venture of this magnitude for a good cause.

History has been made even before the bloody battle against cancer begins.
