Brakpan anti-hijacking task team strikes again: Four suspects arrested and stolen goods recovered
The SAPS anti-hijacking task team chalked up yet another success, when they arrested four suspects last night (Tuesday).
According to information from the police, the owner of Biltong and Braai, Paul Engelbrecht, closed his business, which is situated along Voortrekker Road, on Monday evening at about 8pm.
When he arrived at the business on Tuesday morning, he noticed that the doors had been forced open.
Upon investigation, it was determined that gas braais, gas bottles and power tools to the estimated value of R12 000 had been stolen.
Engelbrecht handed video footage from CCTV cameras to WO Jan Roos, of the anti-hijacking task team.
“The members studied the footage and followed up information,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan SAPS.
This led to the arrest of four suspects last night (Tuesday) in the Brakpan CBD. The team also seized the stolen braais, gas bottles and power tools.
According to Joubert, the seized property was identified by the business owner and was handed back to him.
Two of the suspects were previously arrested for house robbery, being in possession of hijacked vehicles as well as the theft of CCTV cameras.
All four suspects (ages 25, 29, 28 and 29) made confessions to magistrates and will appear in the Brakpan Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thursday), on charges of housebreaking and theft as well as being in possession of stolen property.
From this investigation, another suspect (33), who allegedly broken into a church, was also arrested.
The possibility that this man could be linked to the business robbery is being investigated.
“Management of the Brakpan police is proud of the success of the task team members, who were assisted by Res Const Zander Frits and Gerrie Janse van Rensburg,” said Joubert.
“These members again walked the extra mile to combat crime to make Brakpan a safer place in which to live.”
