Police warn women to be vigilant when alone

The Brakpan police are urging women to be vigilant when they are walking or travelling alone.

This warning follows an increase of sexual assault against women.

“Women should preferably not walk alone, especially at nighttime or in isolated places,” said Capt Joep Joubert, spokesperson for the Brakpan Police Station commander.

“A women’s best defense is having other people with her.”

Joubert also added that women should be vigilant when they’re drinking alcohol in a public place, because these women are easily targeted.

“Women should be cautious of strangers and people they have just met. Some rapists can be charming and that’s how they reassure and lure their victim,” warned Joubert.
